Main ingredients : meat

Ingredients

2 cloves garlic, crushed

1 long red chilli, chopped finely

2 tablespoons dark brown sugar

1 1/2 cups (390g) tomato passata

2 tablespoons cider vinegar

1 1/2 tablespoons worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

2 teaspoons smokey paprika

2 x 400g beef rump steaks, trimmed

4 long crusty bread rolls

lettuce, finely grated cheddar and pickled peppers to serve

METHOD

Cooking whole cuts of meat until they are meltingly tender and able to be ‘pulled’ apart into strands with two forks

normally takes hours and hours of cooking; not so with Smeg’s Speed Oven.

Set Smeg Speed Oven to microwave+static+fan function. Preheat to 160°C with 200W microwave power.

Combine garlic, chilli, sugar, passata, vinegar, worcestershire sauce, mustard and paprika in a 2-litre (8-cup) non-metallic ovenproof dish with a lid. Stir well to combine; season. Add beef and turn to coat in mixture.

Cook, covered, for 1 hour 45 minutes. Remove lid and cook for a further 15 minutes.

Shred meat into sauce using two forks. Discard any fat.

Split rolls in half lengthways, fill with beef and sauce mixture, lettuce, cheddar and peppers.
