Now trending ... white for kitchens
A hunger for change and a further blurring of demarcation between living and food prep zones have seen white take pole position in kitchen design. White surfaces complemented by sleek, very contemporary white appliances are key to the look and Italian brand, Smeg, is leading the change.
Paying homage to the beauty of white, Smeg has released its new Linear collection with a series of perfectly proportioned, stylishly elegant white ovens in lustrous, light-reflective white glass and stainless steel. The look is pure, subtle and endlessly pristine.
The clever use of white creates a sense of seamless space – imagine a white induction cooktop on a white marble benchtop. Or a bank of sleek, minimalist ovens built into a white wall. The kitchen will recede into the overall living area, giving a sense of spaciousness and contemporary sophistication.
The new Linear collection comprises 60cm and 70cm ovens, together with compact ovens, coffee machine, warming drawer, induction hobs plus gas on glass cooktops in two widths – 72cm and 60cm.
Technology features prominently in the new Linear collection - Thermoseal oven technology ensures the perfect atmospheric balance requried for optimum cooking conditions. No guesswork required - roasts are succulent, pastries are crisp and cakes are light.
Additional standard inclusions comprise soft close door, EverClean enamel, Cool Door Technology and the choice of Pyrolytic or Vapour Clean oven cleaning functions. Other options, across the range, include SmartSense Plus – a foolproof, step-by-step guide to cooking via a TFT colour display and 50 guided cooking programmes plus the capacity to save 10 personal favourites.
The PVA164CB 60cm ceramic glass gas cooktop is a study in purity of design. Developed to guarantee optimal performance this hob features ultra-low profile white enamel burners with the highly energy efficient vertical flame technology. The streamlined aesthetics of this appliance belie its durability – the ceramic glass, white in colour and NOT merely printed, resists heats of up to 800°C and is extremely robust.
And for the ultimate in seamless, pure design - the SAI90MW 90cm pure white SmartSense Plus induction cooktop combines sleek design with feature-rich technology.
Surface Share enables the appliance’s six induction zones – uniquely shaped to ensure coverage to the corner of each zone – can be combined and operated by a control slider – either touch directly or finger-swipe.
Three pre-set temperatures – keep warm, simmer and rolling boil – take the guesswork out of cooking while the recall function will reactivate all the previous temperature settings at the next use.
The Smeg SmartSense Plus induction cooktop provides complete control and accuracy over temperatures and cooking times. Each zone can be pre-programmed so it will heat to full power and then automatically reduce to a pre-determined level. Stop-cook timers can be activated for each zone and the STOP & GO function means the whole cooktop can be paused – should the user need to leave the room, for example – and then all previous settings will be reactivated.
There is a choice of sizes in both the gas and induction cooktops while the 60cm and 45cm built-in ovens offer many options.
The range is available nationally from appliance specialists, electrical retailers and some department stores.
