Design – robust yet refined

Secretly nestled about a tiny, beautiful harbour on the sparkling Mediterranean, Portofino is one of Italy’s most exclusive locations on the Italian Riviera.  In stark contrast to its more famous neighbour Monaco, located 200km further around the coast, the residents of Portofino enjoy a gentile and opulent lifestyle, away from glitz and glare. It’s a destination of exquisite taste, luxury living and Italian charm.

Like its namesake, Smeg’s Portofino freestanding cooker also exudes luxury.  From its stylish statuesque lines to refined build quality, Portofino is both sophisticated and sturdy.  In fact, when Smeg’s design studio set out to create the world’s most energy-efficient large-format freestanding cooker, Portofino epitomised the pinnacle of Italian opulence and so the new collection was named.

Fortuitously Smeg Portofino’s namesake Italian seaside town also inspired the unique colours of the collection, taking their hues from the gorgeous colours of the buildings lining the shores of Portofino, joyously contrasting with the sparkling blue waters of the Mediterranean.

Portofino’s rich palette includes burnt orange, coral red, sunshine yellow and olive green together with the more traditional white, black, stainless steel and anthracite (charcoal grey) – a kaleidoscope of colours to suit all tastes and kitchens.  To complete the look, matching wallmount rangehoods are also available.

The robust opulence of the exterior is carried inside with an extra-large 126L cavity with Thermoseal, Smeg’s revolutionary combination of technologies. Thermoseal delivers set and forget cooking with perfect results every time for all types of food and styles of cooking with no intervention required.  With five cooking levels and an ingenious triple fan system to ensure even cooking on all five levels with no flavour transference, Portofino is perfect for large families and those who love to entertain.

Portofino, having achieved an impressive European A+ energy rating, is the most energy efficient cooker in large format available, anywhere.  Testament to this efficiency, Portofino’s sophisticated engineering with world’s best thermal insulation, guarantees a rapid six minute pre-heat to 200⁰C.

Befitting its quality and efficiency features, Portofino has been awarded three prestigious design awards:

  • An internationally recognisable 2016 GOOD DESIGN® award – with a 68 year heritage and an international jury that includes architects, designers and creative directors, GOOD DESIGN® has maintained its importance and relevance with criteria focusing on aesthetics, functionality, ecological compatibility and symbolic and emotional contents.
  • The hallmark of outstanding quality and excellence – from 5,500 entries from 59 countries, Portofino received a coveted iF DESIGN AWARD 2017.  Known for bridging the gap between design and industry, an iF DESIGN AWARD denotes quality, trust and excellence, and has been administered by one of the oldest and truly independent design institutions in the world for 65 years.
  • A measure of international design quality and capability – Portofino was a deserved winner of a RED DOT AWARD 2017 with the jury noting: “These colourful, robust-looking ovens become an eye-catcher in every kitchen and fulfil at the same time the high demands of professional functionality”.   Since inception 63 years ago, the Red Dot insignia is lauded as a label of quality as much by the global design industry as it is recognised by consumers.
