While every region in Italy is known for a specific cuisine and speciality, only Emilia Romagna is known as the “bread basket of Italy”. Smeg’s neighbourhood boasts some of the most fertile soils which produce some of the most flavoursome specialities which are now, luckily, available around the world and in Australia.
For example, Smeg is in the heartland of Aceto Balsamico Tradizionale di Modena (Traditional Balsamic Vinegar of Modena) and Aceto Balsamico Tradizionale di Reggio Emilia (Traditional Balsamic Vinegar of Reggio Emilia); the globally recognised delicacy, Parma ham (Prosciutto di Parma, Prosciutto di San Daniele) and the most highly prized parmesan cheese (Parmigiano Reggiano). In fact, the Bertazzoni family, who own Smeg, also raise cattle and produce their own parmesan cheese, so the importance of creating excellence in food for future generations is truly at the heart and soul of Smeg.
