CONCEALED STYLE: THE LITTLE BLACK DRESS OF THE MONOCHROME KITCHEN

The monochromatic, pared back kitchen is like the little black dress of the fashion world - perennially chic, timeless and so easy to live with.

Gloss white cabinets, stainless steel and glass appliances, simple lines - all are the corner stones to that enduring style statement that retains its good looks for many years to come.

And in keeping with this uncluttered, spatial style Smeg has released a concealed undermount rangehood that delivers optimal power at minimal sound levels.

The PUM rangehood, in either 600mm or 900mm widths, is completely concealed beneath overhead cupboards or island bulkhead meaning absolutely no interruption to the clean lines of the kitchen.

Crafted from satin stainless steel it comprises 138 watt centrifugal, twin impellors with double-sided air uptake that will remove up to 700 cubic metres (nett) of air an hour. So all grease and odour laden air will be removed from the kitchen quietly and efficiently and either ducted to the outside environs or cleaned and recirculated into the kitchen.

Powerful LED lights are positioned to the fore of the grease filters to ensure clear, shadow-free cooking while there are three speeds to choose from to ensure everything from a slow simmer to a high intensity stir fry is catered for.

The PUM rangehoods also have optional activated charcoal filters. The five-ply aluminium grease filters that are supplied with the appliance can simply be washed in the dishwasher.

The PUM60X (600mm wide) and PUM90X (900mm wide) concealed undermount rangehoods from Smeg retail for $790 and $890 respectively. They are available nationally from appliance specialists and electrical retailers.
